Bluebell Wood and Wildflower Meadow Planting Day
Date: 10th March 2019
Time: 1-3pm
The Staines Park Residents Association invites you all to come along on Sunday 10th March for an afternoon of planting, sowing and fun as we create our own community Bluebell Wood right here in Staines Park.
We have a whopping 2000 English Bluebells and 1000 Snowdrops to plant, as well as wildflower seeds to sow.
Come prepared.
Please bring your own gardening gloves and trowels if you can, and remember to wear appropriate footwear and clothing for some messy gardening. Weather permitting why not bring a picnic too?
Members of the SPRA committee and SPRA Biodiversity Team will be on hand to show you where to collect and then plant your bulbs and seeds.
N.B. Only certain areas of the park have been approved for planting by the council and we must stick within those perimeters. Please do not plant without checking with a member of SPRA first.
Once you’ve planted your bulbs and wildflowers it is time to relax and enjoy the park, and your picnic!
‘In the green’ Bulbs.
The bulbs will be ‘in the green’ meaning they have sprouted. They may not look too fabulous in their current state but are the best type to establish a woodland. They will spend 12 months concentrating their efforts underground so we may not get flowers this spring but don’t worry, when they do show they will be worth the wait!
Facilities.
The WC and hand washing facilities will be open as usual next to the tennis courts.
Thank you to our sponsors:
2000 English Bluebells from a corporate sponsor.
200 English Bluebell bulbs, 50 wildflower plugs and 200 gms of wildflower seeds donated from Naturescape.co.uk
1000 Snowdrop bulbs, 250 bluebell bulbs and 250 wood anemone rhizomes from Spelthorne Borough Council.
If you have any questions please ask.
EVERYONE WELCOME, SPREAD THE WORD!
